Pricing FAQ
Things you'd ask before you swiped.
What counts as a "seat"?
Anyone who can read or write to a board with a real login. Guests on Free and Team tiers (read-only, single-board access) don't count. Bots and API tokens don't count either — they're free.
Do I get charged when I add a seat mid-month?
Pro-rated to the day, billed at the end of the month. Removing a seat creates a credit on your next invoice. No "minimum commitment" games.
Is there a discount for nonprofits / startups / education?
Yes. 50% off Team and Business for registered 501(c)(3)s and accredited universities. Y Combinator and 5+ named accelerators get a year of Team free — tell us where you're from.
How does the free tier compare to Trello / Asana free?
Trello free has unlimited users but caps Power-Ups. Asana free caps you at 10 users and hides reports/timeline. Zergboard free gives you 10 users, every feature except SSO & audit, and 100% of the API. We don't believe a board with rate-limited columns is a real product.
What happens when I exceed 10 free users?
Nothing breaks. The 11th user gets a soft prompt to upgrade and a 14-day grace period. No seat is ever locked out mid-conversation.
Can I self-host on Team?
Self-host requires Business — not because we want you to upgrade, but because the support model is different. If you can run Postgres + Redis, you can run Zergboard. Helm chart and Docker Compose both supported.
Do you offer custom Enterprise contracts?
Yes — at >100 seats or for unusual procurement requirements (FedRAMP-adjacent, on-prem with custom SLA, BYO-KMS, dedicated VPC). Email enterprise@zergboard.com. We won't make you sit through a 4-call discovery cycle to get a quote.
Can I downgrade?
Anytime. Drop tiers at the end of your billing period. Features that aren't on your new tier go read-only — your data stays.
How do refunds work?
Pro-rated for unused time on yearly plans. Monthly is non-refundable but cancel anytime. No "store credit only" policies.
